The General Assembly of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) on Friday elected Mihai Daraban CCIR chairman, thus ending Daraban's acting chairmanship.

Daraban was elected on a vote of 34 to 5. The CCIR deputy chair vacancy was filled by Nicolae Tudorescu, chair of the Mehedinti Chamber of Commerce and Industry and director general of Hidroelectrica, the Iron Gates subsidiary.

The elections were held because on April 11, 2014, former chairman Mihail Vlasov was dismissed from office.

'We want to become partners to Romanian decision makers as far as economic policies are concerned. I am not a member of any political party, and my only concern is to secure real dialogue as partners with the decision makers. We hope we can monitor the pieces of legislation that have an impact on the economy allowing for constructive dialogue. Likewise, we want to enter partnerships with employers' associations to build a sound economic environment,' said Daraban.

Daraban will hold the office until December 2017.
