Vukomanovic: Serbs in Kosovo should go to polls

BELGRADE - Dijana Vukomanovic, deputy president of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and president of the SPS caucus, called on Serbs to go to the polls in the early parliamentary elections in Kosovo and Metohija on Sunday and to stand united, adding that in the way they will institutionalize their voting and decision-making rights.

Vukomanovic underlined that the state of Serbia does not recognize Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence, adding that the turnout of Kosovo Serbs will be a big step forward for them.

She told the Belgrade-based TV Pink that this is guaranteed by the Brussels agreement and the Pristina authorities have not expected that Serbs would vote in the elections.

Vukomanovic said that once Kosovo Serbs enter Kosovo institutions, the international community will be able to monitor the exercise of their rights much more closely.

"Presently, they are scattered among local self-governments, the formation of the community of Serb municipalities is under way, which is also a novelty. In the way, we want to strengthen the position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija," Vukomanovic said.
