8th Sarajevo Days to be held in Belgrade on June 13-16

BELGRADE – The eighth iteration of Sarajevo Days event will take place from June 13 to 16 in Belgrade, the organisers have announced.

The programme will kick off on June 13 with Bunt (Rebellion), an exhibition by Sarajevo-based photographer Velija Hasanbegovic in Knez Mihailova Street in downtown Belgrade, where it will remain until June 22.

The documentary photos show the recent protests in Sarajevo.

The festival will also feature a documentary photo collection titled People of Sarajevo and projects such as the Beogradjani (Belgraders) or Humans of New York Facebook pages.

Each day, authoress Imrana Kapetanovic will post a photograph accompanied by a short story – an anecdote on life in Sarajevo – on the People of Sarajevo Facebook page. The Belgrade audience will have the opportunity to see them on June 14 at the Parobrod cultural institution.

The theatre programme will feature actors Mirjana Karanovic and Ermin Bravo, who will perform the drama Helver’s Night on June 16, marking the tenth anniversary of the staging of the play at Belgrade’s Atelje 212 and Kamerni Teatar 55 in Sarajevo.

The story is set in 1930s-era Germany, but is still current, says dramatist Ljubica Ostojic, who add that “fascism is not merely a sickening story of a distant past, but a chronic illness of contemporary times.”

Helver’s Night is the precursor of Sarajevo Days and the objective that has been pursued by the organisers over the years – culture as the foundation of re-establishing old and creating new ties among people from the two cities, the organisers said.
