Dead body found near same Istanbul spot where US tourist Sierra was murdered

Forensics experts are examining the area where the dead body has been found in Istanbul's Sarayburnu neighborhood, on June 9.

A body was found next to Istanbul’s Sarayburnu neighborhood, near the ancient city walls on June 8. Following an initial examination, police said the killer burned the body before leaving it.

The initial media reports said that the body was belonged to a young girl, while later thr reports denied it. Meanwhile, an initial forensic medicine report said that the body belonged to a man between the ages of 25 and 40.

Investigation opened into the case

The witness who notified the body to the police was interrogated. An investigation has been launched regarding the murder.

Sarayburnu is the same area where the body of American tourist Sarai Sierra was found January 2013. Following her disappearance, issues surrounding safety and poverty in the neighborhood triggered much media attention.

Sarai Sierra, 33, left the United States for the first time in her life on Jan. 7 last year to take pictures in Istanbul and went missing in the city on Jan. 21. Her dead body was found Feb. 2, 2013, along Istanbul’s city walls near Sarayburnu beneath Topkapı Palace.
