PDL leader Blaga after meeting with IMF: We request suspension of gas price liberalization

President of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL, in opposition) Vasile Blaga stated, on Wednesday, following the meeting with the joint International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB) and European Commission (EC) delegation, that the Democrat Liberals and Liberals demand the suspension of the gas price liberalization.

"We have told them that we request the suspension of gas price liberalization, given that on one hand, there is no European common market for gas, and on the other hand, there are only two gas suppliers in Romania — Petrom and Romgaz — and one importer — Russia — from which we import at a high political price, but also because this Government has no strategy regarding the energy development of Romania", said Blaga.

Furthermore, the Democrat Liberals request the cessation of stocks held by the state in energy companies.

At the meeting with the IMF delegation, added Blaga, a presentation was made regarding meeting the deficit target through the reducing of investments from public funds. According to the Democrat Liberal leader, in the first four months, the Government has cut up to 40 percent of public funds investments when compared to the similar period of 2013.

"Any democratic states is governed only on the basis of the approved state budget and social insurances from the Parliament. In Romania these things are not discussed any more and it is not the fault of the Troika (e.n. — the three international institutions), but of the Government that they cannot cope in the realm of income and are forced to take breakneck decisions that led to a total lack of predictability of Romania's fiscal policies, lack of predictability that, together with the high number of taxes and tariffs and high labor...
