Serbian innovations presented in Brussels

BELGRADE – A presentation of technological innovation by finalists of the Best Technology Innovation 2013 competition has been organized in Brussels by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) for representatives of the business and academic communities and institutions of the EU.

PKS Vice President Miroslav Miletic said at the opening of the event that Serbia’s business community was strongly supporting the country’s EU accession process and that the idea was to show the European public that Serbia had considerable potential that could contribute to the development of the European economy and that it was ready to develop those potentials within European frameworks.

The PKS said on its website that the conference featured a screening of a film by the European Commission (EC) that promoted EU enlargement through examples of young, innovative and creative people.

Tanja Friedrich of the EC Directorate-General for Research and Innovation said that Serbia should put in more effort to improve its innovation policy.

An agreement on the participation of Serbia in the EU research and innovation program, Horizon 2020, has already been reached and it is expected to be signed soon, said Friedrich.

Bernd Reinhardt of the EC Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises said that his message to small and medium-sized enterprises in Serbia was to join efforts and compete together outside the borders of their country, and the EU would help them through programs such as Horizon 2020 or COSME, the EU program for the Competitiveness of Enterprises and SMEs.
