Soon solution for legalization of 1.5 million facilities

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure Zoran Mihajlovic stated on Friday that the Ministry has already prepared a proposal for the prime minister and the government how to solve the issue of legalization of 1.5 million illegally built facilities.

"I expect that within a month we will reach an agreement with the prime minister on how to solve the problem of legalization and then present it to the public," she told reporters.

Mihajlovic said that the government will make a decision on the issue by autumn and the deadline for legalization will be very short, probably the end of the year.

She pointed out that the issue of illegally built facilities will have to be solved once and for all. Mihajlovic noted that legalization will not be possible for risky facilities on the river banks or landslides and they will be torn down.

She pointed out that the new law on planning and construction, which will be passed soon, will prevent chaos and bring order to the construction industry.

Asked whether Serbia will, like Croatia, pass a special law on the country's reconstruction after floods, she said that the government is working on such legislation in order to speed up the recovery works.
