Bulgarians adjudicate most victories at Poseidon-Kaliakria Cup Regatta

Romanian sailors have won two silver medals at the first edition of the International Poseidon Kaliakria Cup Regatta, a sailing yacht competition that took place between June 11-15, organized by the Black Sea Sailing Association and the Romanian Nautical Club, in partnership with Morski Klub Balchik and Kaliakria Resort.

At the end of the four days of sea competitions, the four inshore regattas starting from Eforie Nord and Balchik as well as the offshore regatta between Eforie Nord and Balchik, showed the winners of the Racing class to be the crew of the British yacht Wind Walker, followed by Romanian crews on the Incognito and Life in second and third, respectively. The latter of the competitions proved a true endurance race, the heavy weather conditions causing the 60-mile course to be run on average in 18 hours.

In the Cruiser class, the Bulgarian crew of the Phoenix took first place, followed by Bonvi (Romania) and Nord-Burgas (Bulgarian), with the rally class dominated by Bulgarian crews on the Mistral, Deva and Sea Adventure, respectively.

The competition, unanimously recognized by specialty forums in Romania and Bulgaria as the largest organizational undertaking in the western littoral of the Black Sea up to now, saw, in the first part, 42 crews participating in the inshore regatta of Eforie Nord, of which only 40 competed in the offshore regatta to Balchik. Of the 40 sailing yachts leaving for Balchik, 13 did not make the 20-hour deadline due to the adverse weather conditions.

Subsequently, on the third day of the competition, the number of yachts that lined up for the Balchik inshore regatta increased to 64 yachts and a total number of 420 sailors. A large part of Bulgarian sailors did not compete in the...
