Italian police delegation visits Serbia

BELGRADE - The delegation of the School for Professional Development of the Italian police which is staying in Serbia on a study visit will exchange experiences with representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Interior, National Assembly, as well as operative and training units of the Serbian police.

According to a release issued by the Italian Embassy, the visit is taking place ahead of the beginning of Italy's chairmanship in the EU since this field bears strategic importance for Serbia's accession process too.

The decision of the School to make Serbia this year's destination of the traditional study visit abroad testifies of the exceptional relations between the two countries' police forces, Italian Ambassador in Serbia Giuseppe Franco stated and added that at the same time, within the initiatives connected to the semester of Italy's EU presidency, this visit confirms Italy's strong support to Serbia in the accession talks, especially the chapters on the judiciary and internal affairs.

In the sectors of the judiciary and internal affairs, Italy has been an important support to Serbia, both in the adjustments to the European legislature and in the operative aspect, including the frequent mutual visits and exchanges, the Italian Embassy released.

Belgrade was one of the first cities abroad to receive the visit of Italian Police Chief Alessandro Panza in October 2013, who chaired the regional conference of police directors in the Balkans together with his Serbian colleague.
