A landmark event

The upcoming visit of Li Keqiang, premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, who will lead a Chinese government delegation to Greece, is an event of landmark importance.

China stood by Greece during its sovereign debt crisis, invested in the country and, judging by the look of things, is prepared to continue to do so.

The possibilities of developing broader cooperation between the two nations appear to be endless at this point.

These possibilities range from boosting tourism flows between the two countries to the transformation of the port of Piraeus into the largest transit center in the Mediterranean region.

In order for this to materialize, however, what is needed is consensus among Greece’s political parties so that we can avoid the type of extremes and nonsense that have been observed in the past, which came close to putting at risk major investments that ended up benefiting the country to a great extent.
