1,200 Tourists Evacuated in Bulgaria's Albena Resort

Some 1200 tourists in Bulgaria's Black Sea resort of Albena have been evacuated from hotels located near the Balata Reserve due to the risk of flooding from the Batovska river.

No guests of the resort have been injured, Vesti.bg reports.

Meanwhile, a man has been rescued in the Albena resort during a low-level flight of two Cougar helicopters of the Bulgarian Air Force who found him standing on the roof of a van in the rising waters, Friday.

The two helicopters have managed to evacuate a total of 94 persons from the flooded eastern Bulgarian regions of Varna and Balchik. There were many foreign tourists among the rescued.

According to the pilots of the Cougars, approximately one-third of Varna and Albena are under water, Nova TV reports. There are many destroyed houses and hotels due to the floods.

So far, the helicopters have performed eight air evacuations of people in the flooded areas.
