Short story festival in Kikinda on July 2-5

BELGRADE - The short story festival Kikinda Short 09 will take place in five cities and three countries from July 2 to 5, and gather 20 authors from 14 countries who will read their stories to the audiences in Kikinda, Szeged, Timisoara, Zrenjanin and Belgrade, announced the festival organizer, Kikinda Short association.

This year's event is held under the slogan "Kikinda, sorry" which, according to festival host Srdjan Papic actually stands for “Sorry, but we are still here”, considering that the festival faced closure in 2013.

A more stable situation this year allowed the event to go international, not only in terms of countries taking part in it, but also venues where the writers will read their short stories to the public, Papic said.

The ninth short story festival will bring together authors from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine, and Serbia.

The festival will feature a surprise guest, as well as young writers from five states that have not participated before, and for the first time welcome authors from all countries of former Yugoslavia.

This year's featured country and guest of honor will be Liechtenstein, which will be represented at the festival by three young authors promoting the country's literature, little known in Serbia, with the support of the Liechtenstein Cultural Foundation.
