Days of Organ international festival to open on Wednesday

BELGRADE - This year's Days of the Organ international festival - Dies organorum - will open in Belgrade on late Wednesday.

The choir and the symphony orchestra of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), as well as many soloists, will open the festival at the Blessed Virgin Mary's Cathedral with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion, which will be conducted by Vladimir Kranjcevic of Croatia.

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Belgrade Stanislav Hocevar, the host of the festival that traditionally attracts large audiences at the start of the cultural summer in Belgrade, said that this year's iteration of the event enjoys particular support from his Archdiocese because 2014 marks the centenary of the Concordat between the Kingdom of Serbia and the Holy See.

The 14th Days of the Organ end on July 2, and the concerts will be performed in the Blessed Virgin Mary's Cathedral and the Church of St. Anton in Belgrade.
