EC president to visit Serbia on Sunday

BRUSSELS -- European Commission (EC) President Jose Manuel Barroso will visit Serbia on Sunday, the EC said on Wednesday.

Barroso will meet with senior officials in the Serbian government, a statement said.

"Serbia is a very important country to the EU and it has made significant progress in European integration," Barroso told Tanjug during a press briefing in Brussels.

Barroso pointed out that it would be his second visit to Belgrade in his capacity as EC president.

"I also plan to visit other countries in the region that have made progress on their European path," said Barroso, who will travel to Albania following his visit to Belgrade.
