A rally area in Istanbul’s coastal province of Zeytinburnu will be opened to construction after a new rally area in Yenikapı is built, by filling the Marmara Sea with soil.

The Kazlıçeşme rally area, which covers 141,000 square meters, will be open to construction after the Istanbul greater Municipality approves the plans from the Zeytinburnu Municipality.

Leather producers, who were removed from the area 22 years ago, still own 72,000 square meters worth of land in the area. Meanwhile, the state owns 28,000 square meters in the Kazlıçesme rally area. An area of 41,000 square meters has been allocated for green space and roads. The municipality officials said the lands were divided between different owners and the big projects could not be done there.

The area has been redistributed to the land owners who were removed from the area in the new construction plans, officials said.

The municipality officials also said the area can be used for tourism, trade and residential projects.
