BELGRADE -- The village of Šopići near Lazarevac was hit by a storm described as a tornado late on Wednesday, and a similar disaster affected another, in central Serbia.

26 persons were injured within ten minutes during the storm in Šopići, southwest of Belgrade.

There were no injuries in the village of Roanda, southwest of the town of Svilajnac, but winds damaged homes, power lines, and even the local cemetery.

In Donja Trnava, near Serbia's southern town of Niš, winds ripped a 500-year-old oak tree from its roots.

Heavy rain and high winds were also reported last evening in Lazarevac, Topola, Aranđelovac, Šabac, Bogatić, Koceljeva, and Belgrade.
