Former Liberal Chairman Crin Antonescu on Saturday said that the National Liberal Party (PNL) would never give up its name, pointing out that the decisions to be made in the Congress were the responsibility of all party's members.

"We do not want to give up our name and we never will. We do not want to give up, although it is sometimes tempting, to the load of a great history, which is the 140-year history of PNL and which is an essential part of Romania's modern history," Antonescu said in his speech delivered during the PNL Congress.

He also spoke of the decisions the Congress was going to make, namely the affiliation of PNL to EPP and the fusion with the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL).

He also said that the unification of the Right Wing, namely the PNL-PDL fusion, was complicated and difficult.

"Esteemed colleagues, today more than ever and as on other occasions, you all, we all must assume all responsibility. For the decisions today, each of you assumes responsibility, no one can blame Antonescu, Iohannis or Ghise. All these decisions mean a democratic moment and sometimes a milestone moment," the Liberal added. AGERPRES
