Deputies' Chamber adopts draft laws for ratification of EU-R. Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia Agreements

The Deputies' Chamber on Wednesday adopted the draft laws for the ratification of the Association Agreements between the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their member states, on the one hand, and the Republic of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, on the other hand, signed in Brussels on June 27.

The Deputies adopted the draft law concerning the Republic of Moldova by 284 votes "for," one vote "against' and one abstention, the draft law on Georgia, by 298 votes 'for,' no vote "against" and no abstention, and the one on Ukraine, by 239 votes 'for,' no vote "against" and no abstention.

In the debates in the Deputies' Chamber, Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean said that the signing of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EU, represents a historic moment and is the result of an effort of several years, in the first place made by a pro-European Government of the Republic of Moldova and based on a legitimate and sovereign choice of the Republic of Moldova and the society across the Prut River.

'Romania has always been in the first line of supporting the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova and I would bring to mind a few important moments, the moment of speeding up and then of the complete initalling of the Association Agreement, the moment of bringing forward the signing of the Association Agreement and the speeding up of the procedure for the visa regime liberalisation for the Republic of Moldova. The Agreement naturally includes a political component, represents a step forward from the previous Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EU, but equally includes a solid ground for a future integration of the Republic of Moldova in the EU,'...
