Thaci "respects" decision that would give his party mandate

PRIŠTINA -- Hashim Thaci has said that he will "respect" a decision of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo addressing the post-election deadlock.

The court on Tuesday decided that the party that won the most votes will name a nominee to form the next government in Priština.

Thaci currently serves as prime minister and his Democratic Party of Kosovo won in the June 8 elections

, receiving 37 seats in the 120-assembly - but he has so far been unable to put together a coalition necessary to form a government.

Posting on Facebook, Thaci said he "respects in full the decision of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo."

However, the Self-Determination Movement issued a statement saying they were "certain" Thaci would not be given a mandate to form a government for the third time, the Albanian-language newspaper Tribuna is reporting.

"None of the four Albanian parties in parliament will join the Democratic Party of Kosovo and Hashim Thaci in government. We stress once again that preventing the old regime from continuing its rule is good news for Kosovo," said the Self-Determination Movement.
