National leader of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) Vasile Blaga on Monday said he is optimistic about the future of the PDL and the National Liberal Party (PNL), adding that in the days ahead a date for the conventions of the two parties' congresses will be set to discuss the merger of the two parties.

'We are in full swing of a PDL-PNL merger and I am looking forward. Probably today, tomorrow at the latest, the date for the conventions of the congresses will be set,' Blaga said before a meeting of the PDL National Standing Bureau.

Blaga also commented on a statement by PNL national leader Crin Antonescu on the political events of 2012 that PDL should quit saying they were a coup d'etat. He said nobody in the Romania political class should gladly remember what happened in the summer of 2012, as proved by the reactions back then from the European Commission the embassies operating in Bucharest when the Commission or the US Department of State came under attack.
