Call for Serbs to vote in Slovenian parliamentary poll

BELGRADE - Serbian Diaspora Assembly delegate for Slovenia Nikola Todorovic called on Monday on the Serbs living in Slovenia to take vote in the snap parliamentary poll there on July 13.

Todorovic told a news conference in Belgrade the Serbs in Slovenia should vote for the slate entitled I Believe, explaining that it had 5 Serbs on it who would try to secure a status of a national minority for the Serbs there.

Serbs do not have a national minority status in Slovenia, although 39,000 people stated they were Serbs at the most recent census, so that issue is among the priorities and political goals of the slate I Believe, he pointed out.
"We expect that list of candidates to be the greatest surprise of the election and at least 3 Serb candidates to enter the parliament, and hen they will have an opportunity to raise the issue of the status of the Serb community in Slovenia," said Todorovic, who is on the list.

The party I Believe is led by Igor Soltes, a newly elected member of the European Parliament.

Former head of the office for diaspora Aleksandar Vlajkovic also invited the Serbs to vote in the Slovenian election and choose I Believe, stressing that they would be able to address the status issues of the Serb community in Slovenia should they enter the parliament.
