KOVIN: Residents of Kovin haven’t been able to leave their homes for days, because they are afraid of mosquitoes, which are besieging the town in swarms. Mosquito spraying hasn’t been organized yet.

- It’s terrible, citizens are complaining all the time: They can’t go out for a walk, and just when the temperature drops, they can’t leave the house. Children are bitten all over their bodies, says Dragan Lisica, member of the crisis staff of the Municipality of Kovin.

Due to flooding mosquitoes are breeding very fast and allergies are spreading. It should be mentioned that both in 2012 and 2013 two people in this area died of mosquito bites.

- Having all this in mind, the municipality decided to declare the state of emergency. Such a decision was necessary, so people wouldn’t have to wait for another couple of weeks. Only one objection was necessary to prolong the tender procedure for quite a long period of time.

- State of emergency is the only way to provide measures for mosquito control, says Lisica.
