President Traian Basescu on Wednesday signed the decree on the decoration of the Charge d'affairs ad-interim of the United States of America in Romania, Duane C. Butcher, with the National Order Star of Romania - in rank of Commander, reads a release of the Presidential Administration. According to the abovementioned source, the head of the state bestowed the National Order Star of Romania - in rank of Commander on Duane C. Butcher 'in sign of high recognition and appreciation of the constant friendship he has shown to our country, for his special contribution to the development of the Romanian-American multiple level relationship and the strengthening of the Romania-USA strategic partnership.' The decoration was made at the proposal of President Traian Basescu.

* President Traian Basescu declared on Wednesday that he will propose incumbent European Commissioner for Agriculture Dacian Ciolos to be Romania's next member in the European Commission. "I don't need a mandate for this, my duty is to defend the national interest. I can tell you that it was the Government that made the nomination during the rule of both the Tariceanu and the Boc Cabinets," the head of state declared at the B1 TV station, specifying that Dacian Ciolos emerged as a candidate for Commissioner after he discussed the matter with the Prime Minister. He added that the European Commissioner is appointed by the Government of Romania in agreement with the President.
