Volleyball national team reaches Euro final

The national team proved there is some pulse in the long-suffering sport of volleyball, as it secured its entry to the final of the European League on Wednesday by upsetting the odds and Slovenia.

The Greeks of coach Sotiris Drikos had lost 3-2 in the first leg at Thessaloniki on Saturday, but on Wednesday they bounced back to beat host Slovenia 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22) and advance to the tournamentÂ’s final in style.

The victory at Maribor means that Greece will face Montenegro in the final of the European League, the second-tier competition that offers its winner a ticket to the top tournament, the World League.

Dimitris Tzourits led the Greeks with his impressive showing, scoring 31 points on the night.
