Corlatean highlights Romania's support for Montenegro's objectives of integration in EU and NATO

Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean on Friday, while paying an official visit to Montenegro, highlighted Romania's support for the national objectives of this state for the integration in the EU and NATO, shows a press release The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) remitted to AGERPRES.

Titus Corlatean is paying an official visit to Montenegro on Friday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Igor Luksic. The two officials had an official meeting in Podgorica, MAE informs.

According to the cited source, Corlatean encouraged the Montenegrins to continue the domestic reforms in terms of democracy and rule of law, necessary to obtain concrete progresses on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic accession.

'The Romanian chief diplomat mentioned that our country grants a special importance to NATO's open doors policy, appreciating that the Alliance expansion significantly contributes to the consolidation of European and regional security. Titus Corlatean noted the progresses Montenegro registered as aspirant state and reiterated our country's firm support for the integration in NATO, highlighting that Romania is and will remain an active supporter of Montenegro's candidacy within the Alliance,' MAE underscores.

At the same time, Corlatean reiterated Romania's support for the progress of Montenegro's process of accession to the European Union and voiced appreciation for the progress made so far, which allowed the opening of new chapters of negotiations, in the EU-Montenegro Accession Conference of June 24. In the Romanian dignitary opinion, these progresses are a clear expression of the country's commitment on the European path.
