Lufthansa renounces flying over Ukraine in favour of Romania after Malaysian airliner crash

Two large European airline companies, Deutsche Lufthansa AG and British Airways, have instructed their planes to avoid Eastern Ukraine airspace, after a Boeing 777 passenger jet of the Malaysian Airlines crashed in Ukrainian territory; the German company requested its planes to fly over Romania instead, the news.malaysia.msn.com website reports.

Most airlines have announced they will not fly in the Ukrainian airspace.

The Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration ROMATSA has announced on Thursday that it is prepared to take on a possible increase in air traffic as a consequence of the crash in Ukraine, and in case there are requests made on the part of Eurocontrol, the administration can ensure simultaneous control on several sectors.

Furthermore, ROMATSA stated that it has taken all the necessary measures to ensure air traffic control services for all airplanes flying in Romanian airspace. AGERPRES
