Dick Advocaat is new coach of Serbian football team

BELGRADE -- Dutch football coach Dick Advocaat will take over the Serbian national team, Serbian Football Association (FSS) President Tomislav Karadžić has confirmed.

Advocaat will take over from Ljubiša Drulović, who was acting coach of Serbia after Siniša Mihajlović left.

"Tomorrow or the day after we will officially confirm that Dick Advocaat is the coach. He should be presented during the weekend," Karadžić told B92 on Tuesday.

66-year-old Advocaat has previously managed several European clubs, including PSV, Rangers, Borussia Monchengladbach, Zenit, AZ Alkmaar, and also the national teams of the Netherlands and Belgium.

His greatest coaching success so far has been with Zenit St. Petersburg, when they won the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup in 2008.

"Serbia has an excellent team, the focus will be on the qualifiers for the European Championship in 2016. I did not wish to work as a club coach. The FSS took the initiative in the negotiations, and I accepted," Advocaat told Dutch reporters, and confirmed he would sign a two-year contract.

Serbia will compete with Portugal, Denmark, Armenia, and Albania in its qualifying group for the next European Championship.
