Montenegro to Return Suspected Drug Gangster to Serbia

Dragoslav Kosmajac faces a speedy to return Serbia this week after the Montenegrin police arrested and interrogated him on Monday in the coastal town of Kotor.

Media reports said that Kosmajac would be extradited to Serbia because he is “not welcome” in Montenegro.

“Kosmajac was detained as 'an interesting person for the security services' and will have to leave the country on Tuesday,” the police said.

Late in June, Kosmajac fled from Serbia after Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic named him as “the biggest drug lord” in the country.

After he left Serbia, he entered Montenegro on a Slovakian passport. Montenegrin police said no international arrest warrant had been issued against him.

The Serbian Prime Minister denounced Kosmajac at a dramatic press conference in June when he announced a mass dismissal of Serbian police chiefs because of their alleged failure to curb narcotics cartels.

Belgrade media reports said Serbian police, Serbia’s Security Information Agency and the US Drug Enforcement Administration had been monitoring his activities for years.

They believe Kosmajac set up and managed drug trafficking channels connecting Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro and Turkey to Western Europe.
