Amendments to law on construction up for public debate soon

BELGRADE - Draft amendments to the law on planning and construction, which would shorten timeframes for issuing building permits, will be up for public debate soon, and are expected to be passed in August, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said on Thursday.

The minister informed representatives of the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), German organization for technical cooperation (GIZ) and USAID Business Enabling Project about key changes to the law, the pace of adopting bylaws and the effect that the law is expected to have on the business environment in Serbia, the ministry of construction, transport and infrastructure posted on its website.

During a meeting at the government, officials noted that the adoption of the amendments is a good basis for establishing an e-construction permit system that the ministry is planning to introduce.

NALED officials pointed to the positive effect that the implementation of the e-construction permit system had in Macedonia, given that it reduced the time needed for issuing building permits, and offered to assist in the process.

Donor organizations, which will together coordinate the activities and possible financial support to Serbia in the process of establishing the e-construction permit system, are also interested in improving the procedure.
