Kosovo Honors Killed Police Officer

Kosovo authorities commemorated the death of Zymberi and inaugurated a new building at the headquarters of the Kosovo Police in Pristina in honour of the police officer who was killed in the north of the country three years ago.

Bajram Rexhepi, outgoing Minister of interior, said “Enver Zymberi symbolizes the actions and the bravery of the Kosovo Police which has done a great job”.

He made his comments after the inauguration of a new building for the Kosovo Police which cost some 970,000 euro.

Zymberi was killed a day after the government of Kosovo imposed trade sanctions on products made in Serbia.

Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia mounted in late July 2011 when Kosovo police tried to seize control of the two border crossings in the Serb-run north of Kosovo at Jarinje and Brnjak. The decision caused anger in the local community.

In relation to the murder of Zymberi, the Mitrovica district prosecutor previously issued arrest warrants against Ratomir Bozovic, Radovan Radic, Milovan Vlaskovic, Slobodan Vucinic, Dusan Jovanovic and Radisa Vucinic.

All are Kosovo Serbs. Two of the suspects were arrested but later released. The prosecution is still investing the case but has apparently not found the perpetrator yet.
