Zeitenlik cemetery keeper receives Order of the Serbian Flag

THESSALONIKI - Keeper of the Serbian part of WWI Allied military cemetery Zeitenlik, Greece, Djordje Mihailovic was decorated on Friday with the Order of the Serbian Flag, Second Class, on behalf of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic.

The decoration is awarded for special merit in the preservation of Serbia's historical heritage and the development and strengthening of cooperation and friendly relations between Serbia and Greece. It was presented to Mihailovic in Thessaloniki by Chairman of the Serbian Commission on Decorations Oliver Antic.

On the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, Serbian president decorates the man who has long been the guardian of this sacred place, said Antic upon presenting the medal to Mihailovic.

Mihailovic expressed his gratitude for the honor bestowed on him.
Memorial park Zeitenlik in Thessaloniki is the final resting place of around 8,000 Serbian soldiers, but also of French, British, Italian and Russian troops who died in the battles for liberation of South East Europe towards the end of WWI.

The ceremony was attended by Serbian Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin, who is on a two-day official visit to Greece.
