Political leaders continue campaigns during Eid al-Fitr
With Eid al-Fitr, or "Ramazan Bayramı" in Turkish, fast approaching, the leaders and representatives of all the major political parties in Turkey are still campaigning hard for the upcoming presidential elections on Aug. 10.
Outgoing President Abdullah Gül will welcome Eid al-Fitr in the capital city of Ankara, while presidential hopeful Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄan will greet the end of Ramadan in Istanbul.
Main opposition Republican Peopleâs Party (CHP) leader Kemal KılıçdaroÄlu and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli will greet the first day of the four-day-long Eid al-Fitr holiday in Ankara. In the first and second days of Eid al-Fitr, Bahçeli will meet his party members in Ankara, while on the third day he will continue his party gatherings in the city of Ä°zmir.
Ekmeleddin Ä°hsanoÄlu, joint presidential candidate of nine opposition parties, including the CHP and the MHP, will be in Istanbul for Ramadan, while fellow-presidential hopeful Peoplesâ Democratic Party (HDP) co-leader Selahattin DemirtaÅ will spend his first day in the Uludere district of Åırnak, his second day in Hakkari and Van and his third day in Istanbul.
HDP co-leader Figen YüksekdaÄ, formerly of the Socialist Party for the Oppressed (ESP), will visit Soma on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, before traveling on to Sivas, Ankara and EskiÅehir.
