Values promoted in political programme of new Liberal party resulting from merger

The National Liberal Party (PNL) resulting from the merger of the extant PNL with the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) heralds itself in its political programme draft as a defender of human dignity, liberty and solidarity.

The document includes the political vision of the party in several important areas of the Romanian society. The Party wants a policy based on values — dignity, liberty, justice, and solidarity.

The new party would like the state to intervene only when an individual is unable to secure a decent living and does not get the support of close people or of the community, while private organizations dedicated to such purposes cannot help.

The new Liberal formula is in favour of the respect for the democratic institutions, and wishes tomorrow's Romania founded on three pillars — the subsidiary state as a regulator of social processes and compensator of unbalances; the modern society made up of dignified, free and responsible citizens; and the civil society acting as a mediator between the state and the citizens.

The members of the new party think that the parties are responsible for restoring the citizen's trust in the Parliament, government and Judiciary.

They also set themselves the major objectives of compliance with the law, consolidation of the rule of law, and reform of the judiciary.
