Balkan Athletics Championships: Romanians reap 9 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals on first day of competition

On Saturday, on the first day of the Balkan Athletics Competition, now at its 73rd edition, held in Pitesti, Romanian sports people won a commendable bunch of 17 medals, of which nine of gold.

The winners of the top honors are as follows: Bianca Razor — 400m race; Nicoleta Anghelescu — javelin throw; Andreea Ograzeanu — 100m dash; Marian Oprea — long jump; Angela Morosanu — 400m hurdles; Mirela Lavric — 800m race; Nicolae Soare — 5,000m run; Cristina Bujin — triple jump; and the men's 4x100 m relay team (Stefan Codreanu, Doru Teofilescu, Alexandru Terpezan, Marian Cimpeanu).

The athletes who claimed the silver were as follows: Adelina Pastor — 400m race; Marian Cimpeanu — 100m dash; Sanda Belgyan — 400m hurdles race; Mihaela Nunu — 800m race; the women's 4x100 m relay team; Mihai Donisan — high jump.

The winners of the bronze medals are Cristina Casandra — 3,000m run and Cristina Sandu — triple jump.

The competition ends today, when the last heptathlon and decathlon events are scheduled, as well as the finals in various running, jumping and throwing events.

Participating in the 73rd edition of the Balkan Athletics Championships are all 15 member countries of the Association of the Balkan Athletic Federations : Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey.
