Dragnea: We decided to hold PSD Council meeting despite floods for such events to no longer occur

Executive chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Deputy PM Liviu Dragnea, said on Tuesday in Craiova, in the opening of the party's National Council meeting, that PSD chairman Victor Ponta decided to hold the event despite flooding incidents in several counties precisely for such events to never occur again.

Dragnea explained that the government institutions involved in the emergency response system developed by himself and Deputy PM Gabriel Oprea have taken action to the best of the people in the flood-affected areas, but also pointed out that more investments are necessary, and that these should be made according to a minutely devised strategy.

"I'm positively charged because I was with Victor Ponta in several flood-affected communes and Victor was there mainly for two things: to assure the Romanians, the people there, that they are not abandoned and that the Government doesn't leave them by themselves, and also to make sure that the government institutions engaged in the system devised by myself and Gabriel Oprea are working and taking action where needed. People said that yesterday and the day before yesterday, and last night all the structures of the Ministry of the Interior, all the other governmental institutions, have worked hard side by side with them. A lot needs to be done because in dozens of years many works have been started and abandoned, but today Victor has proven a major capacity — that he is a determined man. We heard — because we didn't watch TV — that some politicians were urging us not to hold this National Council meeting today. They are afraid that Victor launches his candidacy, but exactly for such things to never happen again in Romania — for this country needs a lot more money (...) for us to...
