Chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), Prime Minister Victor Ponta, said on Tuesday at the party's National Council meeting in Craiova that on December 22 this year the Romanians will regain their freedom, stressing that Traian Basescu's end will come in 100 days.

"Traian Basescu still has one hundred and some days, and then it's the end of him. I guarantee to you that I am that candidate who wants to fundamentally change all that was bad in the past decade. (...) I believe that on December 22, after 25 years, we will regain our freedom and will be able to carry our project further," said Ponta.

He added that on Tuesday night he will return to the localities of Novaci and Bengesti-Ciocadia in Gorj County, which are under the threat of high waters. About 70 families of the Novaci town were evacuated due to the Gilort river overflowing its banks, while in the Bengesti-Ciocadia commune, the mountain rescuers came to the rescue of four people who had been trapped in the middle of the Gilort river.
