Bulgaria's Construction Sector Shows Signs of Improvement in Q2 2014

In Q2 compared to Q1 2014, the construction sector has recorded a significant increase of issued building permits for residential, administrative and other buildings.

In the second quarter of 2014, Bulgaria's municipalities have issued building permits for the construction of 1121 residential buildings with 3 462 dwellings and 461241 sq. m gross building area, of 47 administrative buildings/offices with 34 354sq. m gross building area and 1172 other buildings with 395 324sq. m gross building area, the National Statistical Institute reports.

As compared to the previous quarter the building permits for residential buildings increased by 10.4%, their dwellings-by 2.1%, while the gross building area fell by 1.0%. The issued building permits of administrative buildings increased by 6.8% and their gross building area-by 46.1%. The number of issued building permits of other buildings rose by 27.8%, while their gross building area fell by 15.2%.

As compared to the second quarter of 2013 the issued building permits for new residential buildings decreased by 2.6%, but the number of dwellings rose by 16.0% and the gross building area-by 16.8%. The issued building permits of administrative buildings increased by 46.9% and their gross building area-by 44.7%.

The highest number of building permits for new residential buildings has been issued in the following districts: Plovdiv-137, Burgas-130, Sofia city -118, Varna-99 and Sofia-65. Most dwellings are to be built in the districts: Sofia city-1 100, Burgas-480, Plovdiv-407, Varna-291 and Kardzhali-124.
