PLR Congress kicks off: PM Ponta, Deputy PMs Constantin and Oprea attending

The ordinary Congress of the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) kicked off on Friday at the Parliament Palace, with PM Victor Ponta, Deputy PMs Daniel Constantin and Gabriel Oprea, as well as Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu attending.

As many as 1,074 delegates from party branches nationwide have enjoyed the light show and the entertaining music played in the opening of the Congress, while messages were also run reading '139 years of Liberalism' or 'We continue the liberal history,' after which they played the National Anthem.

The PLR members will gather on Friday and Saturday for their first Congress, on which occasion they will adopt the statutes and the political programme of the party and they will elect its new leadership. PLR interim chairperson Gratiela Gavrilescu, the formation's founder, Senate Speaker Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, as well as Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Deputy PMs Gabriel Oprea and Daniel Constantin will address the meeting on the first day of the PLR Congress.
