Vucic calls for continuation of dialogue on Gaza crisis

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic expressed the belief on Monday, during the meeting with ambassadors of several Arab countries, that the crisis in Near East would be resolved by peaceful means and that the international community will have the strength to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Vucic called for immediate ceasefire on both sides and suggested that the dialogue should be resumed so as to restore peace in the territory as soon as possible.

Ambassadors of Arab countries, headed by Algerian Ambassador Abdelkader Mesdoua, informed Vucic about their view concerning the difficult situation in the Gaza Strip and fiercely condemned the Israeli aggression and, as they said, slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians.

Vucic underscored the importance of respect for all international resolutions and conventions of the UN that cover the protection of civilian population.

Serbia hopes that the UN initiative for the search for a peaceful solution to the crisis would produce results, Vucic said.

Vucic conferred with ambassadors of Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates and the charge d'affaires of Palestine over the relations between the Republic of Serbia and Arab countries.

During the talks, they confirmed that the historical, cultural and traditionally friendly relations are on the highest possible level, the Serbian government Office for cooperation with the media released.

The talks also covered improvement of economic relations and investments of Arab countries in Serbia, as well as the engagement of Serbian companies in the realisation of projects in those countries.
