Fugitive Roupa warns of more armed attacks

Panagiota Roupa, the wife of Revolutionary Struggle leader Nikos Maziotis who was arrested last month in a shootout with police in central Athens, warned over the weekend that the guerrilla group would continue its armed action.

In a letter uploaded onto the anti-establishment website Indymedia late on Friday, Roupa said Greek authorities had used Maziotis’s arrest “as a tool to stabilize a teetering government and to support a political and financial system built on shaky foundations.”

Roupa, who remains on the run after violating the terms of her conditional release with Maziotis in July 2012, said she would “not do police the favor” of turning herself in. “Let them come and get me,” she said.

A few days after the exchange of fire with Maziotis in central Athens, police raided the apartment in Maroussi where the couple had been living with their child. Roupa mocked claims that police had been monitoring Maziotis before his arrest. “We were passing right in front of them. We saw them and they didn’t see us,” said Roupa who has a million-euro bounty on her head. Revolutionary Struggle remains “a serious political threat to the status quo” and will continue its armed struggle, she said.
