International Novi Sad Literature Festival opens on Aug 25

BELGRADE - The 9th International Novi Sad Literature Festival will take place from August 25 to 29, the Association of Writers of Vojvodina announced on Friday.

During the four-day festival, authors from Serbia and abroad will read their poetry and prose at an open-air venue in downtown Novi Sad and take part in panel discussions on modern literature.

More than 20 writers from Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia, Mexico, Poland, Hungary, Columbia, Romania, Denmark, Bulgaria and other countries, along with over 30 authors from Serbia, are set to participate in the festival's main programs. The participants will also include 15 translators, as well as 20 young poets competing in the poetry slam.

This year's festival will also be dedicated to modern music, and feature contemporary pieces performed by international youth orchestras.

The festival will present three awards - the International Literary Award of Novi Sad, which will be handed out for the ninth time at the Newlyweds Square, Branko's Award for young poets, named after the 19th century Serbian poet Branko Radicevic, which will be presented in Sremski Karlovci for the 54th time, and Best Slam Poet of Serbia Award for the best live poetry performance.

Each year the festival presents one national anthology of modern poetry. After Germany, Poland and Romania, the spotlight this year will be on the modern poetry of Mexico.

The International Literary festival is organized with the support of Provincial Secretariat of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, and City Council of Novi Sad.
