The film was selected by a majority vote by a jury made of TV film critic and television producer Eugenia Voda, film critic Magda Mihailescu, film critic and historian Cristina Corciovescu, film critic and artistic director of the Transylvania International Film Festival Mihai Chirilov, film critics Dana Duma, Irina Margareta Nistor and Iulia Blaga.

The nominees for 'Best Foreign Language' film will be selected from the countries' submissions in this category. The ceremony of the Oscar Awards, considered the creme de la creme of the film industry, will take place on February 22, 2015 in Los Angeles.

Film director Tudor Jurgiu told AGERPRES that he considers the jury's decision to pick his film as a sign of appreciation by the critics' circles.

"I think the [proposition] is a sign that Romanian critics appreciate my film and I am happy this is so. (...) What's next ... is still too remote," said the director.

"Japanese Dog" lead actor Victor Rebengiuc told AGERPRES that although the selection of the film was a "great joy" for him, he doesn't want to indulge in "vain hopes" about it really ending up among the nominations in this Oscar category. "It's just a proposition," was the actor's down to earth comment.
