Jaksic: Functioning of Zubin Potok municipality under threat

ZUBIN POTOK - Head of the Zubin Potok municipal assembly Nemanja Jaksic said Monday that unfounded accusations and threats by EULEX that mayor Stevan Vulovic will be taken in for questioning, disturb the functioning of municipal assembly of Zubin Potok, a Serb-majority municipality in northern Kosovo-Metohija (KiM).

The actions of EULEX feed the fear and concern of the citizens, both in the Zubin Potok municipality and the entire territory of KiM, Jaksic said in a written statement to the media.

The Kosovo-based media report that Vulovic is suspected of helping a Serb detainee escape from the police station in Zubin Potok in March this year.

The Kosovo police tried to serve a summons on Vulovic last month, but he was unavailable. Jaksic told Tanjug that the mayor is currently on an extended vacation.

This event prompted Serbs in Zubin Potok to stage a protest rally, which the mayor did not attend.

In his written statement to the media, Jaksic pointed out that unfounded accusations and threats that Vulovic will be taken in for questioning prevent the elected mayor from performing his duties.

"This poses a serious threat to activities of the Zubin Potok municipal assembly and to implementation of the Brussels agreement on the normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations,” he said.

"For that reason, we demand that the international community and all relevant authorities in KiM put an end to the intimidation and threats, and allow Mr. Vulovic to perform his duties as the mayor of Zubin Potok without any impediments," said Jaksic.
