Serbia,RS: Cooperation in fight against extremism, terrorism

BELGRADE - Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic met Wednesday with Radislav Jovicic, his counterpart in Republika Srpska, the Serb entity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the fight against extremism and terrorism.

“Serbia will use all its resources to fight all forms of crime, and the priority is the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism. In my country, and also in Bosnia-Herzegovina, there is a big problem posed by an increased risk of terrorist activities, something that demands special attention,” said Stefanovic.

Certain individuals go to battlefields in Islamic countries only to become a security threat upon return, a release from the Serbian Interior Ministry quoted Stefanovic as saying.

Stefanovic expressed satisfaction about cooperation between the Serbian and RS police, stressing that the results achieved over the previous few months had shown that it was “very good and successful.”

He said that he and his colleague Jovicic had discussed operational cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, smuggling of people and cars, and financial crime, primarily illicit trade in excisable goods.
“Trade in excisable goods causes great damages to both Serbia and Republika Srpska while bringing huge illicit profits to people involved in it,” said the Serbian minister.

Stefanovic said that the Serbian and the RS police had formed several joint teams tasked with combating organized crime and corruption, stressing that the fight would continue to be a priority.
