The Supreme Council for Country Defence (CSAT) on Wednesday will gather in a meeting at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace to be chaired by President Traian Basescu following to discuss about the presence of Romania in the NATO Summit upcoming in Wales (UK) this Thursday and Friday.

'The meeting agenda includes elements that have to do with Romania's presence at the Summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to be held in Newport (Wales, UK) on September 4-5. Among the main issues to be approached will be Romania's participation in the NATO mission in Afghanistan in 2015 and some of the measures that were established at NATO level in the context of the current regional situation,' informs the Presidential Administration in a release.

Last Friday, President Basescu announced that NATO requested Romania's participation in ensuring security on the airport in Kandahar, Afghanistan, following the CSAT to give its response on this matter at its meeting on September 3.

On the same occasion, the President announced that the NATO Summit will plead for an enhanced military presence of NATO in the Black Sea area.

'We are going to support the strategic enhancement of the eastern flank of the Alliance, our major interest being to have NATO naval forces stationed in the Black Sea region. (...) Its is clear that the existing difference in naval capabilities between the Russian Federation and countries such as Romania and Bulgaria presents major security risks in the area. That's why an enhanced naval presence of NATO in the Black Sea should be our major objective at the Summit," said the President on the abovementioned occasion. AGERPRES
