KM mayor reveals he was target of assassination plot

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- Mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica Goran Rakić has confirmed for the Beta news agency that he was informed of a plot to assassinate him.

Rakić said the information came from the Kosovo police.

"From some other sources I was informed that one person of Albanian ethnicity has been arrested," he said on Thursday, adding he was "not worried because he believes that the police had taken all security measures."

Regional Kosovo police commander Željko Bojić could not reveal any details, but said that "the police have certain information related to the safety of Goran Rakić."

"The police have taken all security measures and the mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica can fully perform his activities," Bojić told the agency, adding that "security can be guaranteed to every citizen, including Rakić."

A police patrol can now be seen in front of the building where Rakić lives.
