North Mitrovica mayor's assassination was in preparation

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Mayor of North Kosovska Mitrovica Goran Rakic has told TV Most that the Kosovo police had informed him on Wednesday that there were preparations for his assassination.

"Some other sources have informed me that one ethnic Albanian individual has been arrested," he said, adding that he was not concerned because he had faith in the police and their efforts.

Northern Kosovo police chief Zeljko Bojic could not reveal any details of the matter, but said that the police had some information related to Rakic's safety.

The police have taken all the necessary security steps and Rakic can perform his duties in full, Bojic noted, adding that the police could guarantee the safety of every citizen, including Rakic.

There are police officers stationed outside the building where Rakic and his family live, TV Most said.
