Democracy under Pressure (Afternoon Session) | Live Streaming

Thirty-five years ago, there were 40 democracies in the world. By the end of the 20th Century, that number had tripled. However, democracy has not triumphed everywhere, and emerging democracies face difficult dilemmas and obstacles.

The “Athens Forum 2014: Democracy under pressure” is a series of events that will take place in Athens on Monday September 15th, 2014 to celebrate the International Day of Democracy. The program is co-hosted by the International New York Times and the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, and held in cooperation with the United Nations Democracy Fund as its principal global event for the International Day.

This year's program follows the highly successful and symbolic “Athens Forum 2013”, the first of its kind marking the International Day of Democracy, held on September 16th, 2013 as part of the “Global Conversation” series of high level debates of the former International Herald Tribune, now the International New York Times.
