Police evacuates around 370 flood victims

BELGRADE - Serbian police evacuated around 370 people from the flood hit areas in the municipality of Kladovo, eastern Serbia, late on Monday.

Around 300 people were evacuated from Tekija, including a woman and her one-and-a-half months old baby, Serbian Ministry of the Interior (MUP) said in a release.

A specialist water search and rescue team continues to evacuate flood-hit homes in Tekija based on priority and according to safety assessment of the situation in the field.

The rescuers evacuated 65 people from the village of Podvrska and two from Blizina.

Members of the MUP Emergency Situations Sector equipped with vehicles and boats, Gendarmerie, and police units from Belgrade have been sent to the flood-affected areas in the Bor region.

A police helicopter unit is also engaged in the evacuation and assistance to flood victims in the areas of Donji Milanovac and Kladovo, the release states.

State of emergency due to flooding has been declared in the municipalities of Kladovo, Negotin and Majdanpek.
