World Bank: Romania plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions

Romania plays an important role in what regards the process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially in southeastern Europe, said, on Thursday, Jian Xie, an expert on environment with the World Bank, during a specialist conference.

"The World Bank wants to help countries to establish their own policy of countering the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Although Romania is not a country like China, Germany or France, in what regards its contribution to reducing emissions that contribute to global warming, Romania is important in the area of southeastern Europe, bringing its substantial contribution to cutting down greenhouse gas emissions. Romania itself has problems in what regards greenhouse gas emissions and that's why there's room for improvement. We have prepared for Romania a programme aimed at countering climate changes, under which we will provide assistance for a period of two years, while also promoting green economy. It's a step by step approach. Identifying key sectors and interest areas is an important step for the proposed goal, then we must identify the problems in the sector and the intervention measures", said Jian Xie.
